The
talented and energetic Nelson family opened their kitchen
as a business
in early 2003 naming it after family head and experienced
chef, Karl. Karl
and Paula Nelson long dreamed of making his fantastic food
available for
area businesses and families to enjoy for events and special
occasions. The
catering business grew out of that desire and the wish to
bring their family
together in the endeavor.
While Karl Nelson is creating incredible
food, Paula is busy as his right
hand, assisting with food preparation, scheduling and organizing
events,
keeping the books, and helping with marketing. The Nelson
children, Elliot,
Lillian, and Charlie, have all helped their parents with
the business,
especially when the rush is on.
Karl's experience cooking for restaurants,
country clubs, and conference
centers over 26 years, and his natural talent, enable him
to make gourmet
food for any gathering at affordable prices. Karl's Cuisine
features many
original, and delicious dishes that are Karl's own creations
as well as
family favorites he has adapted to make great. He uses regional
ingredients,
and in-season foods used whenever possible. Recipes can
be adapted for any
size group. Karl's Cuisine is unique in the Eastern UP and
northern-lower
Michigan for its quality, variety and presentation!
The Nelsons moved to Michigan's
Eastern Upper Peninsula in 1995 when Karl
became Chef at Cedar Campus. They liked the area so much,
they built a home
on 30 acres southeast of Pickford where they enjoy horses,
pets, and the
simple pleasures of country life. While the business
started in Pickford, it
has relocated to a spacious, new kitchen facility in Sault
Ste Marie and
began operating as a full-time family enterprise in 2004. |
